2018 Grant Cycle Now Open
It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I will retire as President and CEO of The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham at end of January 2018. I’ve had the privilege of partnering with phenomenal community leaders and heads of agencies who work tirelessly to bring economic and social justice to low-income women and their families. Thanks to our committed Board, professional staff, and incredibly generous donors like you, The Women’s Fund is in its strongest position since its creation 20 years ago.
I’m optimistic that the next leader of The Women’s Fund will build on the momentum created to take the organization of the next level. I leave the organization in December in the capable hands of incoming Board chair Leslie Carlisle and Tracey Morant Adams as chair-elect. The Board will conduct a national search for my replacement with Lisa Engel chairing the Search Committee.
I am very proud of what we have accomplished together.
Completed our $5 million campaign and launched Collaboration Institute 3.0, our most ambitious initiative for systemic change to address generational poverty.Supported programs that created positive change for more than 3,400 women since 2013, including 372 single mothers enrolled in post-secondary education.Invested over $1.8 million in training hundreds of first responders on sex trafficking of minors and increasing the economic security of single mothers.Launched Smart Party, one of the first crowdfunding events in Birmingham, and honored 52 amazing women since 2012.Advocated for stronger limits on payday loans, licensing of childcare centers, and workplace policies favorable to working mothers.
I’ll miss the tireless agency directors, our marvelous donors, and especially the mothers I’ve met who are working so hard for a better life for their families. I look forward to hiking and traveling with my husband, spending more time with my children and grandson, and enjoying long lunches with many of you. Rest assured that my passion for greater equality and justice for women and girls will not diminish.
Thank you for walking by my side over the past six years.
