Welding jobs heating up among women
Since last fall, each team has been developing plans for a Family Hub with the goal of more effectively aligning Birmingham’s social services and workforce initiatives.
It is exciting to see the teams move beyond operations as separate, disjointed agencies toward intentional cooperation to better serve families as a whole.
The teams are:
Walker County Hub: Bevill State Community College, Jasper Area Family Services Center, Inc., and Walker County Board of Education
Shelby County Hub: University of Montevallo, Jefferson State Community College, Shelby County Community Services, and the City of Montevallo
Hope Inspired Ministries and Eastlake Initiative, two team members from the Northeastern Hub, have already co-located. The agencies now share space with Serving You, a nonprofit that provides emergency food and utility assistance. Once launched, the Northeastern Hub will allow families with emergency needs to also access longer-term services including job training, family coaching, financial education, and housing supports. Child care will be provided nearby at New Rising Star, another Hub partner.
The third and final Collaboration Institute 3.0 team convening will be in November. The Family Hubs will launch in early 2019. Follow along on Facebook and Instagram for more updates and a look behind-the-scenes!
